they are hard to sift through and people who use generative AI tend to hide the fact they used it, because they know people don't want it.

people who use generative AI tend to hide the fact they used it
How do you know that?
It is not the impression I got.
I see people reporting ai usage that is not even gen ai usage as ai. I see people bragging how they vibe coded a thing. But I do not rember seeing someone being dishonest about it.
You also need to consider the context. Is it a company or a hobby game dev. The company risks negative public image and even a ban from platforms. And the hobby dev has not much reason to lie about it.
Do you have any examples for systematic intentional ai usage hiding? What were the circumstances?
I remember one company having accidentally left in a prototype image in a game and there was backlash about even that. A company "lying" about these things is news.
well, I look at or listen to the generative AI in the game after a dev didn't actually specify they used it. or it becomes uncovered later. both happen after I had purchased games.
I've also noticed a "No AI" tag but went to discover they used generative AI in their dependencies for certain game functionality.
example on this platform: LAVOICE. example on another platform: Delta-V: Rings of Saturn, Clair Obscur, Ready or Not, SpaceBourne 2.
/__site/tsomyst.itch.io/lavoice ? Why do you think that game uses generative ai assets or code? What do you mean with dependencies?
You talk about the Clair Obscur "controversy"? That is the case I talked about. They missed some placeholder graphics. Even such non issues are news. If you cite this as an example how developers intentionally mislead players to buy their gen ai games, your argument loses credibility.
You claimed this: people who use generative AI tend to hide the fact they used it , and so far you could not convince me of this.
So far, I have seen:
- At least one game with “No AI” disclosure that straight up admitted to using generative AI on the game page.
- At least one game with “No AI” disclosure that used AI-generated stock art. Meaning: the stock art has an itch.io page, with affirmative AI disclosure.
- At least one account spamming games with “No AI” disclosure faster than they could possibly be made by humans.
- A whole bunch of games with “No AI” disclosure with suspiciously AI-looking “art”. I tend to give these the benefit of the doubt individually because I can’t prove anything, but collectively speaking I am sure that at least some of them used generative AI, directly or indirectly.
- There are also games that use the manual “No AI” tag whole admitting to using generative AI in the AI disclosure, or the other way around.
Clearly most people who use generative AI don’t hide it, because most new games on Itch.io admit to using generative AI. At the same time, there are clearly some games labeled as “No AI” that use generative AI, whether due to error or deliberate deception.
Claiming that some people are dishonest is a trivial truth.
But the claim was people who use generative AI tend to hide the fact they used it , and to my understanding, this says: most people are dishonest about their ai usage.
You and me see the opposite of that claim happening. The sheer number of ai disclosed games clearly tells that "people who use gen ai" are not hiding it. Not in significant numbers. So, no, they do not tend to hide that they used it.
Do free labor for me? What the
Your "why" was your personal opinion that has no foundation in facts. People do not lie about ai usage in games in significant numbers.
There is too much ai, yes. But the problem is not that most people lie about things having gen ai in it. The problem is not that it is hidden. The problem is that it is everywhere and in abundance. Usually clearly marked.
You're asking me to convince you, provide examples, and explain to you what dependencies are. This is all labor you can do on your own that I'm not going to do. I simply don't have the patience to engage in an argument I didn't consent to having. Just because I'm not willing to give you examples (which digging those up is an example of the labor I am talking about) does not mean it is not based on experience that informs the facts I am expressing.
Anyway, please stop contacting me. I no longer wish to discuss anything with you.
