Sorry, no stream today.  I'll continue on Monday.  See you then!

Second stream done!

If you want to watch me playing your game and commenting on it as I go, I have a VoD here (starting at 2:30:30 if it doesn't automatically start there):

My VoD is up, incidentally, and I play the game at 2:05:40 (if it doesn't start there automatically):

Incidentally, if you want to watch me playing the game and commenting on it as I go, the video is here (starting at 1:27:48 if it doesn't start there):

A Dell laptop running Windows 11.  Just got it in December, so, while it's not the highest-of-high-end gaming machines, it's not old.

Incidentally, if you want to watch me playing and commenting on your game, it's here (at 34:50 if it doesn't start there):

I think mostly in the tutorial, but also on the page itself ("cann't" and "fases", for example)

If you want to watch me playing and commenting your game, it's here (starting at 1:05 if it doesn't start there automatically):

Incidentally, you can watch me playing the game here (at 3:04:46 if it doesn't jump there directly):

I couldn't seem to get the waves to start.  The farms were all generating gold, but no enemies were appearing.  I just kept putting down buildings and waiting for something to happen. I restarted the game and even reloaded the page multiple times to see if it was me, but the same thing kept happening.  Too bad, because the game looks exactly like the sort of game I could get lost in for days.  I'll check back later.

(Also, for the CYG-14, there were no devblogs, so unfortunately I can't rate you too high in that jam)

Very rough, but I can see the beginnings of a fun game here.  I couldn't seem to damage the "boss" at all, though, was that intentional, or was there a trick to it that I wasn't getting?

Also, I was playing it with a controller rather than keyboard/mouse (because I hate WASD controls), would that have made a difference?

(For the CYG-14 jam, I had to rate a little low, because there was only one Devblog, so there was no way to really compare how it started with how it ended)

On the one hand, really good.  On the other hand... it ended just when it started getting good.  The second chapter really turns the first one on its head, and I can't wait to see where the story goes next.

(For the CYG-14 jam, though, it's a little light on devblogs)

I found the game fun, but laggy.  Often I'd click on something and the tile next to it would be the one selected.  Overall, I enjoyed the game, played the Tutorial to the end, and I'll try the campaign mode soon.

Can't give too much on the Devblog front, though, which is what I was looking for for this jam. :(

Well, that was interesting.  An oddly non-standard way of doing pixel-art, but good for game mechanics.  (I am a fan of pixel art, as you may have guessed from the name)  Devblogs were informative, but I didn't find the Easter egg. :(  (Then again, I didn't try a few things I wanted to do.  Lemme go look again....)

Anyway, spoooooooooky game, just in time for (a couple of days after) Halloween!

Well, this was neat.  I can see you're putting some good effort into it, and it's fun to pick out the imposters.

One thing: Linda Von Looy doesn't quite match her picture (the little knot at the top of her hair is missing on her ticket), so I had her detained a couple of times even though she was genuine.

(Also, you might want to consider running some of the text through a spelling checker.  It was a little jarring)

But good job overall!

The demo you have for download doesn't include all the stuff that's in the devblogs, but it looks *really good*.  I'm excited to try the updated version with Level 3 included.

That's odd.  It's just a YouTube video. Try copy/pasting it manually?  youtu.be/NXaJI3aLM7I?t=8173

Oh!  Sorry about the wrong pronouns!  I'll go fix that.  And, yeah, I read them all, that's why I felt for you.  I know the feeling of Life hitting you over the head when you just want to make a fun little game.

I know you watched the stream live, but if you want to watch just your part again (or if anyone else on this page wants to watch it), it's here (starting at 2:16:13 if it doesn't automatically start there):

Played the game again yesterday, right before rating it (though I got interrupted in rating it and didn't get a chance to do so until after the stream was over).  2:02:32 if it doesn't automatically start there.

I also played your game on my stream yesterday, if you want to watch my live reactions.  (1:42:07 if it doesn't start there)

(1 edit)

I also played this game on my stream yesterday, and commented on it there, too.  I felt for you. :) (36:13 if it doesn't start at the right place)

I also played this game and commented on it on my stream!  (13:11 if it doesn't start there)

First stream done!

I played this one for the GBJAM-14, and I'm doing it again!  The game looks the same on the surface, but the new B-button moves add new strategies, and the movement overall feels smoother than before.  I think my only minor complaint is that it's tough to tell when you're properly lined up with the mouseholes, especially with Big Kota.

Overall, though, a fun game that's even more fun now.

(1 edit)

Good game, but no devblogs.  I can't track your progress, so I can't give you a good rating on that.

(Also, I only managed to get halfway through.  I couldn't do the dance minigame at all. It just felt... laggy and wasn't always responding to my button presses in time)

Also, now I've seen pictures of Ahaggar National Park, so that's nice.

(1 edit)

Wow.  Your game is fun, if simple and unfinished, but those devblogs were extremely informative on what you were doing, how you were doing it, and why.   I'm just nodding along when you had days where you couldn't seem to get anything done, or days where you just worked on graphics instead of the coding, because I know what that's like.  What a rollercoaster.

(I kinda like the menu music, incidentally)

Unfortunately ran into some bugs, but I see this game is a little deeper than it seems to be.

I FOUND THE SECRET CODE.... and then the game crashed when I tried to use it. :(

Still, a fun silly game.  Reading the devblogs, sounds like you had a few setbacks, but you overcame them, and there's more to come. :D

I think I would have like to have read in more detail the problems you were having that caused you to have to restart making the entire game at least twice, though.
(1 edit)

Thanks!  I wish I could have finished it, but... y'know, life. :D

Like I did for the last game jam I was in, I'll be playing and rating your games (and your devblogs!) live on my stream.  I stream on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with the first stream this week starting in about a half-hour.

https://gtlk.link/TTQGU7vg

This is a much smaller game jam than the last one, so there's a good chance I'll get to all the games, either this week or next.  I'm going to be going in a random order, but if you want your game pushed to the top of the queue so you know when to tune in and watch, just reply to this post!  (I'll also make lists of what games I've played/rated after each stream).

Or just drop in and chat. :D

Either way, I hope to see you there!

Family matters cropped up over Friday and Saturday, so I wound up not streaming on Friday or Saturday, or doing any coding all weekend.  You didn't miss anything.

(1 edit)

I want to give it a try again after a few more updates!

Finding time between coding, streaming, and promotion is hard.  How do you do it? :D

They were. >:(

I will say that having GB-like sound was *not* a requirement in GBJAM-14, so I didn't rate anyone based on that, just on how well they used sound and music.  (Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any way to check what my ratings for the game were now that the voting is over)

Oh!  The Atlas coordinates!  I wonder if I can use the Atlas ID number to figure out which version of the store I just left and replace it with a corresponding Atlas ID from the other tileset?  Worth a try tomorrow!

Oh, one issue I found when replaying it on stream... it is possible to go through one wall, walk into the next room, and get stuck in the corner.

I had to restart the whole game to get out of it.

Congrats on sixth place in the Gameboy Soul category!

And my final stream before the voting closes, from Saturday:

I'll still play games on my stream (starting in about three and a half hours) while working on my own, but of course the voting will be over by then.

I really wish I *had* played this one on-stream.  I loved it.  Great atmosphere, melancholy story.  I thought it was odd there was a turn-based fight at the beginning of the game but then never again.  Was I just lucky, or was that intentional?

Still, great game.
