Well, it’s definitely a game with a fun sense of progression, and the feeling of being a massive thing devouring everything is satisfying. It feels a bit like those soap-cutting videos :D
But there are some unpleasant or simply confusing moments that feel like a lack of polish:
- The beginning drags on. Objects are placed so that you’re rushing from one pile of trash to another, weaving through various objects you can’t actually suck up yet because you’re too small.
- The UX isn’t very intuitive: it’s unclear what I can suck up and what I can’t. This makes it hard to play strategically or deliberately. Sure, you can still zip around and just have fun, but the game has so many skills and tutorials that it feels like it wants you to play thoughtfully.
- It’s unclear why they place objects there only to say, “You can’t suck this up.” It would make more sense not to put them there at all if they can’t be consumed yet.
- MILES OF TEXT. An unreal amount. It blocks your view, and every tutorial halts the game, breaking the flow. It would be nicer to teach the basics first and then offer hints—subtly, without stopping the action. Constant interruptions right up to the endgame are annoying.
- There are skills, but I never really understood why I should use them; I just rolled around eating everything. Why complicate things if the mechanics aren’t actually used?
- The zone balance is weird. I beat the entire game while staying in the first zone. It wasn’t until it grew into a massive tornado that I realized there was an area with skyscrapers. There’s no real gameplay reason to go there, though.
- The object respawning is a bit weird. At one point, I was just standing there surrounded by dozens of planes. Where did they get so many planes? :D
I’ve listed quite a few complaints, but that doesn’t mean the game is bad; I just felt there were areas that could have been even better. Overall, though, it’s already really addictive—the kind of thing you can get hooked on for 15 minutes while waiting in line or something. A fun time-killer!
