Z. A. T. O. // I Love the World and Everything In It
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
STORY
USSR, 1986. When Ira Grachevskaya goes missing in the closed city of Vorkuta-5, not a soul seems to be concerned – except for the quiet outcast Asya Shubina, that is. Uncover the mystery behind Ira’s disappearance, transmit your radio signal to the universe and learn why a bird flies past the window.
CHARACTERS
Meet the cast.

A problem child and a truant, Ira doesn't have the best reputation. Her standoffish demeanor makes her difficult to talk to, especially for someone as meek as you. There is a rumour she's been meeting with an older man.

Marina's carefree personality makes her quite popular among her classmates. Adults don't seem to like her very much, probably due to poor grades. Despite the girl's outgoing nature, her worldview is rather cynical.

A boy with an unpleasant sense of humour. Likes picking on people weaker than him, namely you. His family has been a little out of it the past few weeks.

You. Not worth writing about.

Masterpiece.
This is my first vn and I loved It. The art and music are amazing, I really liked the characters, I personally found Asya really relatable and I loved her monologues(My favorite being the one about the line).
Though the ending kinda left me with mixed feelings I can't describe, like I haven't fully digested its message so I'll replay it.
Thank you for making this game.
it's so back. we're so over.
loved this the vibes, the ambience, the character writing... all immaculate. <3 Asya feels like such a real character to me

The game caught my interest. However, I’d like it to be available with a Russian translation.
Review:
<Mixed Feelings>
ZATO is a game with a highly relatable main character, with relentless optimism and insecurity, accompanied by confident Ira, kind Marina and bully Gavin. The mystery with Ira's disappearance is definitely interesting. The game was quiet and compelling. Compelling, yet quiet. And then the chapter 2 twist comes in out of nowhere.
The sci fi feeling had my head scratching, and the ending.... it made me feel a little empty. Was the developer trying to convince us with Ayra's beliefs? Her solidarity of self, and the idea that your own standards can set the world... it feels difficult to accept all of a sudden. The whole entire story, Ayra was taken advantage of and had to survive just off of her Existentialism... and despite her incredible optimism, the world struggled to understand her. Being a logical guy, I too find it difficult to accept the ending of this VN. Especially with the mystery of Ayra's friend unexplained (what happened to her? She was her best friend, and then what?)
TLDR: I am very surprised at the 99% positive rating - it feels the twist and the ending would alienate a lot of people.
I took it as her love mattering. She couldn't change the world she lived in, she couldn't change the fact that she was taken advantage of, and she couldn't fully explain or make sense of everything that happened around her. But her love was real, and mattered, and existed beyond her.
Honestly I can't really relate to the loving the world thing since I truly don't love it but still this was really refreshing to see from another perspective on how people truly love the world itself.

This game will live rent free in my head
Just want to say the character Asya reminds me of a character named Lain from an anime. It's the eyes and possibly the hair.
I really love this game! Is there any chance of an Android release so I can play away from home too?
я хочу на русском как это сделать?

I love this game so much and I have so many questions.. I wanna know if Ira went inside marinas house when she calmed down, or did they find her later on? I was sobbing when Ira saw Asya.. it was so wonderful I’m crine
This is such a beautiful and strange and heartbreaking and love-filled experience. Thank you for making this.
reminded me of serial experiments lain back when i played it for the first time ! and its insane how a game this good and long is free that's insane!! but anyway i reccomend this game for anyone new to visual novels or anyone in general actually
Samee my first thought was "Is that Lain??"
I love you nopanamaman
i haven't played visual novels in a long while, but this game got my interest when i checked out the trailer and. wow, this game was beautiful to experience from start to end and alot of the themes in it were fascinating to read. i think this might be my favorite visual novel for years, thanks for making this amazing game!
Thank you for this wonderful experience. I see the world fairly similarly to Asya so it astonished me all the more that she could love it so. The game's themes, presentation and narrative resonated deeply with me, it's pure art. After hours of thinking and writing after finishing the game, while not quiet agreeing with everything my worldview is much clearer and kinder now. I can say that I love this world and everything in it. And it feels wonderful. Thank you again. With all my heart.
I have no words. Thank you for this
It would help a lot I think to specify exactly how to start the game for each platform c:
(ex."for Windows, open so and so, for Linux, launch so and so file)
Thank you for your work <3
I hope that you will make more games/VN, because this one is beautiful. It made me feel in a way that is painful, but endlessly beautiful
This game is absolutely genuinely amazing
i played this a while ago but i found it again now that i have an account
this game was WONDERFUL please never lose your creative insightful spark because youve made something so beautiful with this. holy shit. like i played your game and ever since i dont think ill view anything the same way. thank you so much for blessing us with this vn and take care
This peaks and I'm glad I found this itch.io page after playing it for free on Steam so I get to throw some money at you.
I made an account just to send this comment. Your game truly is beautiful, and it hit a very deep core belief in me, how I view the world and all. It's inspired me in my own writing, too. So I thank you deeply for that.
The universe is a strange being; I don't think I'll ever fully understand them. But even if I never will, I know it understands me better than I could ever hope to understand myself, and it knows what's best for me. Maybe that's why I had me play this game in the first place, and I truly, truly love them for that.
Por favor pónganlo para Android 🗣️ 🗣️
Hi, I just finished this today and I'm never going to be the same. Holy shit. This was an absolute joy. I don't think i've experienced anything like this playing a game in ... years. It's just... Gorgeous. Losing yourself in absolute, beautiful, reality.
I love the soundtrack so friggin much dude I listen to it while reading all the time
Amazing. How is this free? I'm paying you for it.
first time writing a review about a game. i felt like this game deserves it.
honestly, this is the best game i have ever played. the writing is fantastic, the story is fantastic, and even the way you wrote the characters is fantastic. i have nothing bad to say about this game.
every character had their own special characteristics that i related with, that's what made me love them so much.
the ending was bittersweet, which i absolutely loved. endings like this always amaze me.
perfect game. i hope you focus on zato in the future more, i'd love to see more official content of this game.
A strangely sweet story that surprised me by resonating with oddly specific elements of myself that I didn't expect to find in a fiction, nor ever did before.
Somehow, despite its story and themes, I feel a little less lonely after finishing it ?
I think it will stay with me for a long time.
Thanks for writing it !
