Battle Healer Hildegard
You're a legendary support character
In this game, you're not the tank, or DPS character - you're the healer. This is a top-down roguelike healing game. Cast powerful healing or transmutation spells to support your knights, and save the villagers fleeing towards your keep.

Toss a coin to your healer
Saving villagers and slaying monsters brings in coin. You spend coin to buy knights and upgrade your keep.

Grow your healing power
In this roguelike you get to upgrade your supporter class powers. Each run will present different abilities and spells when you level up. You gain new spells on level 3, 6 and 9.

Controls
Mouse & Keyboard: Control Hildegard (player character) with WASD, place spells with mouse, click-and-hold left mouse button to cast spells
E: Press 'E' button to drink potions and to open shop
Number Keys (1-4): Pick Active Healer Ability
From the team
We wanted to make something that is all about healing. Playing a support character can be a lot of fun, but can feel a bit like an afterthought in some games. The experiment is to put the healer front and center and combine it with roguelike and tower defense elements.
The game is still in early development, so there will definitely be small janky bits here and there, but we are quite happy with the result. It flips the action tower defense premise a bit on it's head, and you get to cast a bunch of spells!
We hope you have fun with it! Do you think we are missing any important spells?

A rarely if ever explored concept. Can't say I can think of a game where you're just the healer.
this is awesome actually, hope you explore this concept further
It's an amazing concept, and a great inspiration for me whose working on a war medic game pitch. Amazing job of the team, and I'll be curious to see what you'll do with it !
Thank you very much for the game! It was really fun, love playing as support in games and this really scratched that itch :)
You are very welcome! Thanks for playing and sharing!
I really liked this game, being playing it for some hours. Will follow its development. Some bugs I encountered: 1) if you close the gate at the same moment you levelup (usually occurs when you save last wizard and immediately close the gate behind him) the game freezes does not proceed. All you can do is look another direction and that's all. It softlocked two of my runs 2) If your amount of potions changes during charge, potion will be used automatically. If you pick up it during preparing a spell, it will be used immediately. And if you drink while you are charging, then healer will drink another after the charge. Also, magic wards do stack and refills mana faster if there are more than one in the same place. Not sure if it is intended or not. Also you can precast it before opening the door which makes it even stronger.
Thank you for this! (this is very perceptive - you noticed connections like the double mana potion we didn't <3 )
It just shows as a gray screen for me, but the screenshots and whatnot look awesome :')
(Firefox user on Linux)
Hey! thanks! :)
aw that's a tough combo! I'm afraid it might be a lost cause to switch browser, but you could try chrome which seems like the most stable one.
I have the same issue as the previous user, and switching to Chrome does the trick
On Firefox and Chrome there's a 403 error
The resource at “/html-callback” was blocked due to its Cross-Origin-Resource-Policy header (or lack thereof). See https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/HTTP/Cross-Origin_Resource_Policy_(CORP)#
There are a lot of error messages in the console, specific to Firefox, that all read like this one:
ERROR: shaderHidden/Internal-GUITextureClipText shader is not supported on this GPU (none of subshaders/fallbacks are suitable)
haha this was great! Cute and fun little game. Your survey was wildly long and complicated, too much for me to commit to. recomend shorter.
Yeah it's probably at bit too long - we might just shorten it at bit. It's OK to skip questions, if you return :) And you are also welcome to write here, if you have anymore feedback.
Thanks for playing! We are so happy to hear that you liked it <3
you cannot skip questions in the survey, all the questions are made that you need to do them
Yes, you are correct - with the long form ones you don't feel like replying, you can just write "skip" and move forward.
The crash bug has been fixed! - see latest dev log for details
also we buffed all upgrade cards slightly. Let us know what you think :)
One small typo: at game start, it says to "Glose" the gate :)
Thank you ... I am cursed. I always have a typo in the worst places. I spelled my own name wrong on my thesis :D Thank you!
Happens to the best of us :) I love your concept and idea to feature a healer as the main character, btw... healers and medics are always my favourite class!
Hehe that's sweet of you!
aw yeai! nice! Then you might just be our target audience in carnate :D - what's your thoughts on the gameplay? is the chaotic element OK? We are unsure if the healer fantasy matches well with the survivorlike elements in the game for everyone, or if we are just weird healer fans who wants stuff to get our of hand
not loading last update :C
Hey! Just to be sure, it worked for you before the latest update?
be
thanks! :)
isnt working and lagging my chromebook badly
Hey! Sorry you are having issues - One thing you could do, would be to enable hardware acceleration, but I am not sure it would do much, since you are sitting with a chromebook. Even though the game looks very simple and 2D, it's actually a 3D scene and it will require a bit of horsepower.
Fun! :)
Yeai!
Doesn't run on my browser. Can we get a download?
If it doesn't run, it might be a plugin blocking it from playing. like "Ingocnito mode". You can also try a different browser - it should work. We will look into downloads.
I've discussed the same issue with numerous devs and it turns out I'm just cursed, lol. I think the browsers don't like my graphics card or something.
Wow, such a interesting game! Keep work!
Thank you!
Any plans to release this on Steam?
Maybe more like "wishes" :D but yes - Absolutely, if all the stars align *fingers crossed*
Please don't neglect releases on accessible platforms, like GOG and here, on Itch.
This is fun :D
Any chance for a way to export/import save file?
Perhaps a way to Pause the game as well? :D
Yeai! great to hear :)
We will look into it! (And we totally get, that pausing would be nice :D )
The artwork is absolutely incredible, and I honestly believe it deserves a much better game built around it. The current concept feels weak and repetitive, and I think the game would benefit from a completely different direction rather than simply adding more content to the existing idea.
With art this beautiful, there is so much potential to create something truly special. I would love to see the developers explore a more engaging concept with deeper gameplay, meaningful challenges, and a stronger sense of progression.
The visuals are already fantastic. Now, the goal should be to build a game that lives up to them. This art deserves a much more ambitious and memorable experience.
Thank you so much!
It's amazing to get all kinds of feedback. I don't consider myself an artist, so this came as a surprise! I'm very happy you like the visuals and can feel that there is potential for a great game <3 It is currently still in a prototype stage, where we have to decide how to take it to the next level. We are quite excited about all of the design possibilities this theme allows for and any wishes/ideas are always very welcome!
I'd like to report a crash
I tried closing the gate just as the wizardwas entering the gate
I think it happened at the same time and the game froze after
Thank you for letting us know! Did it happen in your first run?
it happened on my third run. I forgot which night it was
Thank you! That will help us narrow it down :)
the game doesn't seem to launch
Hey! Check if you have any browser plugins that could be blocking it - if that doesn't work, you can try a different browser. Hope it works out!
I love the artwork
Thank you! <3
nice game, but a bit more like an incremental than a roguelike.
That is interesting - We were inspired by some incrementals (Master Healer Kale for instance) and thought about going that direction, but we just both really liked the upgrade carousel, and the roguelike premise. I guess it still shows :D (sharp eye!)
Could it be usable on iPads and such?
Never say never - but not currently unfortunately
sad
It seems i found a bug
ehm... It would definitely seem so :D
How did you do that??
Make a downloadable version
Will look into it :)
really had fun with this one! as a general healer main i found the concept pretty good, especially that feeling when everything gets VERY out of control and you have to rush back to the gate!!! managing the aggro of the enemies was also quite a fun touch, decent room for playstyle and strategy which is cool too!
Aw that is really awesome to hear! thank you for playing and sharing <3 We hope we can scratch that "healer support experience" itch - that is the goal at least :)
This game is super good
Thank you, Molly! <3
ohh ts crashing is about the scale of monsters and running away when night ends
Hey! hmm... yeah it seems like there is definitely a correlation between late level=lots of enemies and closing the gate, but I wonder if it's also after a few runs? Did you complete runs/ unlock spells before it happened? (also thanks for writing!)
oh ye me too; most of my crashes came when there was also like loads of enemies on screen
and not sure if it's related but I also pressed space """very fast""" to close the gates both times it crashed
Was it after playing a couple of runs?
hehe - It's curious HOW fast you can press space now. Thanks for sharing! It will help us find the bug.
no, the two crashes i had were my first two runs; after that i realized i should probably just press the wizardy portal and move on lmao
my game crashed lmaoo
besides that i really enjoyed this game!! :D
for my first run i tried to set down as much healing wards as possible in strategic areas but that led to me missing some enemies haha
will there be a feature to possibly remove and replace a spell slot?
so is crashing common or...
and a funny thing when a villager ran the other way??
What! this is new :D
We haven't experienced this personally yet, but are trying to figure out how to provoke it. Looks like you also just leveled up while closing the gate - We will try to figure out why it's happening. hmm... How many runs in did this happen?
We really want it too! We are thinking about having more "places" to visit in the courtyard - a place to switch spells would be amazing! totally agreed
sorry about the strange crashes! Happy to hear you have fun in between them! :D
You just lost the game.
woah, wtf, this game is freaking awesome! I always loved to play support characters, but I usually don't have friends to play online with, so I usually ended up with tankers or rangers to solo play. This game is very good, I really felt that spark to want to play more and more - I'm hooked! Please, definitely keep building, It's freaking awesome, It's now greater than you, you owe It to the community, you gotta finish to make gaming history! Good luck!
Aaw this warms our hearts!! Thank you for writing <3
We will do our best!
If i can suggest something: everytime there is at least 1 person in the map whenever you are going to close the gate you lose at least 1 person is understandable but it's unfair since every second pass is increasing the amount of enemies and persons is impossible to get 0. I unlock a new spell but when i restart the game I still have 3 spells and all the same I don't understand that maybe you have a Random spell whenever I press to unlock a new one but like that I cannot understand if i saw them all or not.
Beside that I really loved to play this game
Agreed - we completely get the frustration! We are looking into how we can design our way out of the last second spawns before you close the gate!
regarding the spell unlocked, its actually just introducing a new spell in the rotation of upgrade cards! But we realized that it might be a confusing way we phrased it. Thanks for the heads up!
thank you for taking the time to write!
Suggestion for Devs:
Spellbook: A list of all spells under '?'. With unlocked/found spells having info. Accessable from main screen.
Increased 'hand': Random chance to increase the amount of 'choices' from a level up by 1, to a maximum of 5, or a 'hand'.
Spell Merging: Possibility of two spells being merged by a 'third' spell, even if all spell slots are full(as it will make 2 into 1). Possibilities being such things like the summoned stationary knight and growth for giant stationary knights. Or the mana placement and Mass Heal leaving a lingering healing spot on the ground.
Recruitment Variance: Villagers > Archers, a small area where a slow arrow is shot at nearby enemies to the town. Villagers > Hedge witch, random chance of a nearby enemy being 'cursed' or a nearby friendly being 'healed'. Villagers > Blacksmith, increased attack/defense for knights. Villagers > Apothecary, x > x free mana potions per night. Villagers > Bankers, X% interest on current held coins. Knight > Paladins, AoE damage, increased def, increased att, increased healing. Villager > Trainer, Increase knight health by X% per trainer.
Useful Wizards: Wizards do nothing upon 'saving' except taking up space. What if each wizard saved gave a free level up choice? Maybe a wizard chucking a random fireball, frostbolt, lightningbolt, tempest, or earthspike at an enemy near the town on a long cooldown? Maybe they could reduce costs by x% per wizard.
Use any or none, but thank you for a fun game about a favourite pastime.
Nice suggestion list!!
Honestly all of it is really cool and some things we had not thought of! Thank you so much for sharing!
fun fact: Wizards actually award you a level up right now, but there is no clear indication (that's totally on us) it's on our list of "missing feedback" - but we would love to use them for something else as well! I think this idea is really great.
thank you! :)
We are happy to hear it! <3
Fun game! I'd love for there to be more!!
Thank you! We would love to make more <3 Thank you for sharing :)
thanks
You are welcome! :D Thanks for playing
Pretty fun. I got the long-range Healing Bolt & the Mana Ward as my first two spells, so for the late game I would sit in a warded spot & lob healing as villagers spawned in. Got out right after reaching level 9, with 35~ deaths.
I do wish there was a way to make villagers stop spawning in, but still let you protect the ones on-screen. Maybe a church bell in the village that you can ring?
Also, Mana Wards can be placed during the day & remain during that night. I only noticed this on my final night, and didn't make too much use of it, but figured you should know.
I like the bell-ringing idea!
We love it too! And there actually is a bell, it's just out of the frame! We talked about something like this, where you can let them know "the coast is clear" and maybe cause a surge of villagers.

Nice! level 9 might be a record!
Agreed with the villagers - We will have to figure out if you trigger their spawns or you can somehow stop it. We have also talked about a "Hail Mary" upgrade card that will save a lost villager each night, but I think we will have to come up with something more substantial. Love the bell idea <3
Thanks for the heads up with the wards! It's probably the same with the healing ward.
Thanks for taking the time to write!
great game!

just got 1 issue (prolly because I use web version?) but sometimes when I close gate for the night it would freeze here (stuck in this screen, tried pressing all of the keys on my keyboard but to no avail)... happened twice so far out of my 5 runs ;w; and both when I was just about to win too lol
so far my only solution to this is to refresh the browser (which resets the progress to the start)
other than that issue it's a very fun game, 10/10 will play again! :D (btw here's a screenshot of said stuck screen)
Hi!!
So happy you like it! So sorry it froze! This is the first time we hear of a bug like this (if anyone else reading this has had the same experience, please let us know in the comments!) - aaw and then it happens when you are about to win - That's the worst! hmm... It looks like you just leveled up maybe in the screenshot? did it happen as you closed the gate?
hmmm maybe? sry I kinda forgot (I think I pressed the level up option before closing the gate? or was that another time-)
or maybe I haven't pressed the level up option and that's why it caused the lag? (maybe the computer can't handle level up & close gate inputs at once?)
all I remember is both frozen screens happened when I pressed the space bar to close the gate for the night ;w;
Great gameplay. I would love to see this game fully fleshed out. The concept is really good. I think a good addition would be to make a way to cancel the spell. There were a bunch of times I charged the spell and I realized I needed to I needed to conserve mana. Also, there were a bunch of times the spell didn't effect a person that was clearly in the arc, which I am not super upset about as its the concept of the game, but if you could add outlines of the characters that are being effected by your spells, that would be great.
Thank you Jambot5!
Yes to both those things! We completely agree and it's been noted (in bold) :) ! Thank you for playing <3
This is cool.
A little janky around the start, but once I understood it it was fun.
I'm looking forwards to see how more of it develops.
Hey! Yeah I get it - we should maybe either show controls in the top of the page or in the game, so it's clearer what you have to do! Thank you for writing! And happy you liked it :)
Added it to the embedded image in the top of the page - I think that will help people, so thank you for the feedback!
