Their names are Squilchan and Shadchan. Squilchan (in the animation dressed up as Char Aznable) has been the host of v3Expo since 2023 when she took it over from our previous host in a battle with several copyrighted characters. Her sister Shadchan (dressed up as one of the most popular modern comic characters, Terriful) joined in 2025 when she had to cover for Squilchan while she was sick and couldn't host the show. Shadchan and Squilchan both started hosting together in 2026 and will continue to host the show until they or I die and the show stops. (Never btw, I'm immortal)
Yes we do! You can join our discord here: https://discord.gg/QEaH7aKu8 and let one of the kids know you're working on the game jam and we'll let you in.
That's a good question. The short but stupid answer is time zones. I don't know where all these 80something participants are based out of and while we are based out of EST in the US, I know that some of our participants are in Europe which means that if I announce the theme in the middle of the night they lose out on time to develop. Doing it a day before allows everybody to get informed with ample enough time to account for different parts of the world.
Plus not everyone checks the emails so I can't rely on that as the communication method. (At the time of this writing only 10 people have checked the email announcing the theme)
Maybe not the most effective method, but one of the things that we had decided to change from the first time we did this.
Not a stupid question at all! I'd be happy to explain!
So the theme hasn't been revealed yet (it will be tomorrow in a short animation we've put together) so make sure to tune in.
The modifiers (or game mechanics) are a twist we put on the traditional game jam by giving you some extra things to work in. So as of this writing the ones required to work in are settings not fit for horror, sacrifices, (and current unless the vote flips) riddles.
How these and the theme are implemented is entirely up to your interpretation. Does sacrifice mean actual Aztec style sacrifices or does it mean "trading something for something else"? Does a setting not fit for horror mean that it's not meant for horror or is it just something uncommon for the genre?
Part of the judge score will be based on how well you interpret and implement the theme and modifiers. So this is your chance to get really creative with it!
Hope that helps!
