It's a magic eye illusion — you are meant to cross your eyes to see a three dimensional image, in this case it is a large "3".

It can be tough to see. I recommend looking at a more standard magic eye illusion first, then try that technique on here. At the end of the day though, it is a novelty and a fun way to see what is possible on the Game Boy. The trick of it all is what is fun about it.

Oh, and don't fullscreen it too look at it, that can make it more difficult. The size it is when looking at it on the submission page or the project page itself should be a comfortable scale to see the illusion.

Thanks! This was more of a proof of concept — I believe that with 3D models and lighting tricks, you could have an even better 3D effect implemented. Meaning, an effect with gradual depth, not just the two flat layers shown here.

Thank you, much appreciated :)

Stretching two colors across a full screen dither is tough I'm sure!

Haha thank you, glad you enjoyed :)

Ayyy the vibe came across haha

It can be tricky!
The hidden image is simply a "3", in a pixel font. The effect itself is the exciting part haha

Interesting!

Interesting!

Nothing like a fun spooky Ben Jelter piece for the halloween season!

I'm getting dizzy with all these groups of 3!! haha
Nice work, the dark tones work very well

Lots of fun details, nice job!

Very cool. I like the negative look that the fates have too

I like the thick colored outlines for each hand.
Welcome to your first itch jam btw! Hope you had fun and hope to see you next year :)

Trippy! Cool piece :)

I like him!

The eyes! :0 so cool

Cool composition! I like the way the colors balance out too

Quite the creative sphinx/cerberus combo! I like it

Great piece. I'm glad you went with the more cartoony Cerberus, I absolutely adore him here haha

Love this one! Very trippy. A jam favorite of mine this year for sure

Really rad skull shape, especially with the dithering. And I learned something knew! Interesting to see this inspired by a real land mass

Very immersive submission

Neat! Love the perspective and rad styling

I like how unique each head feels in their respective light tone. Nice job!

Wonder submission! Really neat composition; it tells a lot in such a small tile count. Welcome to the GB Pixel Art Jam btw! We hope to see you next year as well :)

Spooky!! Great image all around

Was already a nice entry with the unique diffuse style, but reading the story behind it made it even better :) Thanks for sharing

Love the moon behind the mountain. Such a strong, interesting composition for the background.

Works nicely for Link's green :)

I like the choice (and execution) to have the angled dither go all of the way through the image

Fun! I like the subtle inclusion of the light source too

One of my favorites in this jam! The dark colors, seemingly infinite background, cozy night vibe, it's all great.

I'm due for one of these "loose track of time gaming" nights myself. Maybe with the upcoming Ocarina remake :)

Wow, very striking! Love the rain effect too.

Lots of cool elements to look at in this!

Ahhh "san-berus" is so fun haha!
The shading technique paid off btw, the fluffy texture does indeed come across :)
Nice work

Reminds me of the beginning of gen 4, my beloved :,)

Very nice!

Nice detail!

Nice bold outlines!

Super neat entry! Fun to read the story behind it
