DX4MDK2 Virtual Reality 95
There is a tree growing on this planet. And not just one. There’s also something resembling a gramophone, along with some dried flowers. It feels like a hidden realm tucked away behind a wall—a world contained within a monitor, which emerged in 1995 following the release of Windows 95.
This world is like an entirely new universe. You’ve arrived here via an old-school virtual reality headset—though one powered by an upgraded processor. A rare piece of kit: an i486DX4 100 CPU, a SVGA VESA 2.0 graphics chip, black gloves wired up to the system, and a headset—a bulky contraption that covers half your head, yet fits surprisingly comfortably. Rumor has it there’s a more compact version built on a Pentium II processor—closer to a standard pair of glasses, albeit a bit larger. But this one is a black, triangular helmet, much like the one worn by the protagonist in MDK2.

And here you are. You can feel the silence of this world—a quiet, restful sanctuary. There is a sense of calm all around, bathed in a deep, violet-hued light. Hanging above is something that looks like a disco ball—another planet, much like the one you’re standing on. There isn’t much else to see, but you could try to reach that spherical object. It’s like an arcade game set in 3D space: you have to leap, push off, and fly—or perhaps swim—your way over to it. Now, that’s more like it! Time to explore what else this place has to offer.

Just like that, you open a 3D graphics file—and discover an entire world inside!
